The iCAN Academy for entrepreneurs

The iCAN Academy for entrepreneurs is the brainchild of Wayne Malcolm, author, coach and international conference speaker. It is set to launch in 2011 as a unique institute that delivers self-employment skills training to independent entrepreneurs. Our students benefit from a broad range of self-employment skills and tools as well as direct mentoring from existing entrepreneurs. ICAN uses the word ‘entrepreneurship’ to describe a broad spectrum of opportunity. These include:

• Direct sales opportunities

• Social enterprising opportunities

• Arts based opportunities (both creative and performing)

• Intellectual property opportunities i.e. book publishing, music, etc

• Media opportunities

Each of these areas offer real opportunities for independent entrepreneurs. For this reason, our academy offers five course categories as follows:

1. Compliance and due-diligence: These courses ensure that our students are aware of best practice, current regulation, tax efficiency and the due-diligence required for running your own business.

2. Direct marketing and sales: These courses specializes in a range of modern marketing and sales techniques. It is ideal for independent marketers and sales professionals.

3. Creative and Performing Arts: These courses take raw talent and adds the polish necessary to secure contracts.

4. Intellectual Property: These courses aim to encourage budding authors and recording artists to develop, package, promote and sell their services more effectively.

5. Media studies: These courses are designed to train and certify social media consultants. More and more companies are engaging social media gurus to create and manage their social media strategies. It also aims to help recording engineers, graphic designers and film editors to develop, package, promote and sell their services more effectively.

The home-based business industry is growing exponentially around the world. As families struggle to cope with a shrinking income, they are increasingly exploring and experimenting with a home run business on the side. A home-based business is more attractive to ordinary people because it typically comes with low start up and running costs. If done right it can provide a sensible solution for families who have been burned by the recession.

Unfortunately the home business movement tends to promise more than it delivers. The reason is that most people enter it without any formal or independent training. Our academy aims to provide the non-partial and experience-based training necessary to succeed at a home-based business. Our faculty members are all successful entrepreneurs who make a full time living from their home-based business ventures.

The new iCAN centre comprises seminar rooms, admin areas and a media-training area. We offer larger introductory seminars at weekends as well as part-time evening courses. iCAN courses and seminars have been held in hotels and other venues on a part-time basis but is ready to offer a full blown curriculum of courses in a newly acquired and refurbished facility.
